The Family Welcome Centre for Newcomers is the first step in registering your child with the Ottawa Catholic School Board if you are new to Ottawa or Canada, and English is not your first language. Our caring and experienced staff is here to introduce newcomer families to our community. Our assessment service helps students receive the best programming so that they can have a good beginning at school in Canada.
Current full-day kindergarten sites (both junior and senior) offer Extendend French (25%) programs. However, full-day kindergarten sites opening in September 2012 will begin offering French Immersion (50%) programs. This pilot model will be evaluated, and a recommendation to offer this full French Immersion program in ALL full-day kindergarten sites will be submitted to the Board for the 2013-2014 school year.

“Put learning in my way — then stand aside
to guide my footsteps — but do not push me.
My steps are small because my legs are short
and there is much to see that you have seen.
But see no more — too bad!
When I have travelled all the road through
books uphill and down
My head will overflow with so much knowing.
Don’t make me go too fast to see and hear this
lovely world
Let joy keep pace with growing."
